How Our Program Began

We began serving clients in 2001 as part of the Living At Home/Block Nurse program and transitioned into a nonprofit organization in 2002. We obtained our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in January 2003.

Initially, we operated under the name Helping Hands Outreach to Elders in a small office space donated by a local church. Over the years, we have moved several times and now have a location on Main Street in Holdingford, which offers ample office space and a comfortable area for community gatherings.

In 2010, we officially changed our name to Helping Hands Outreach. In 2013, we expanded our service area to include St. Stephen and the eastern area of Brockway Township. This expansion led to an influx of service requests from individuals in Rice.

In 2023, we officially began serving older adults in Rice.

Over the years, with the help of more than 800 volunteers, we have served 1,900 older adults and their family caregivers. Since we started tracking meal services in June 2016, we have provided a total of 21,110 meals.

Though the communities we serve are small and rural, the support and participation in various events and services offered by Helping Hands Outreach create a meaningful, positive impact on the entire community.
